PTFE is a fluoride-containing thermoplastic. It has the highest chemical and thermal resistance of all plastics, is resistant to almost all aggressive substances and also can be used in the food sector. PTFE also has the best dry-running properties and is therefore preferred for seals, but also used for guide elements with low lubrication and high sliding speeds. The abrasion resistance is generally low, and PTFE substances are prone to cold flow under pressure. It can be counteracted by fillers such as bronze, fiberglass, carbon or MoS2.
