Gaskets are used for static axial sealing of two flat machine components, as may arise with flange connections and in apparatus engineering. The sealing mechanism of the gasket is based heavily on surface pressure. One of the most important quality criteria is therefore a lower compression set of the material used, which is required for proper function. One of the most commonly used gaskets is the O-ring, which may be used both in static and in dynamic application with different elastomers and TPE materials.
